It’s the last challenge of Cee’s 5 Chinese Elements. When I think of earth I think of the incredible geology of Utah. First to come to mind is “Church Rock” near the turnoff to Canyonlands National Park. We have always referred to it as “Stupa Rock” and whenever we go by it brings back happy memories of visiting Boudhanath in Nepal. I wonder if anyone would mind if I painted this in a similar manner!

Somehow Bodhi this doesn’t surprise me!
M the La Salles add to the mystery of it.
Thanks Ingrid! We left
Poppy it’s not dumpy… It’s stupa-pendous!
Wonderful dumpy squat Church !!! I can’t think why we didn’t get to see this on out trip ….
Great photos! Hey are you at Cave Creek? I might be your neighbor if you are
Those mountains in the background look like the La Salles, too! Hee hee.
I saw the photo in my reader before reading your words and thought – a natural stupa !
thank you very much
I like that
ML – The road goes on forever and the party never ends.
Thanks E – somehow it doesn’t surprise us that this is a well worn path for you as well. Happy Trails.
One of my favorite sights on a favorite (and well worn) path. I’ve always wondered about the carved opening at the base. Knowing that non-native settlers dug into the sandstone to create dwellings, or at least shelter, I’m curious about it. But always seeing the herd of cows around, easy to guess what the shelter was for.
How you’ve tied it to the Buddhist tradition is wonderful… I’ll never see it any other way again!
Thanks Cristian! Just looked at your blog – your photos are beautiful as well!
Beautiful. Hope to visit the Church Rock one day. Are you still at CSP or has moved on?
very beautiful photos!
Thanks Cee!
Wonderful earth photos!! Thanks for participating!
